Mangrove Ecosystems
The Mangrove Ecosystems are distributed in the East and West coasts of India. Variously estimated to be the ranging from 5000 to 6810 Sq kms,the mangroves can be divided into three major types: These are: Tidal, Riverine and Lower Elevation Coastal swamps. A comprehensive information on mangroves of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu has been presented by the M.S. Swaminathan Research foundation (http://www.mssrf.org/) Chennai. The information is in the form of an Atlas for each of the river basins of these states. In addition physico chemical, Geomorphology, hydrology, land use, flora, Socio economic variables, mangrove vegetation dynamics and shoreline and management imperatives have been provided.

Mangroves of India: State-of-the-art report (in DjVu format)
This report has been prepared on considering the research works on Indian mangroves between 1987 and 2000. It includes the ecological, environmental, microbiological and socio-economical aspects of Indian mangroves. This will be very useful for the mangrove users to update knowledge in this field.
The report has been developed by ENVIS Centre at Centre of Advanced Study in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu, India.
How to use the Atlas?
All the three atlases are present as web book in the DjVu format. To view the atlases, it requires the free DjVu browser plug-in available from www.lizardtech.com
or click here for
DjVu plug-in. After clicking the above links for mangroves atlases, following toolbar will be seen which has multiple options.

of the atlas. It also provides the
zoom in
, zoom out
and pan
option for better
viewing the maps included in the atlas. You can also use the zoom option
to zoom selected area. You can also use navigation option
on the toolbar for seeing next page or previous page or you can type the number of the page which you want to view.
There is also a option
for searching text in the atlas.
